Epical Musicals is Resounding Scream’s 2015 Christmas Party. An Epical Musical is an epic, guilty-pleasure musical that covers the arc of the story in an adaptation of 5 minutes or less.  Everyone has that one guilty-pleasure musical that they’re a little embarrassed to admit is their favourite. For Co-AD Linda, it’s Show Boat and for Co-AD Stephanie it’s My Fair Lady. This is a little chance to indulge in your dirty little secret, get silly, get ridiculous and get epical!

Listen To Me

How many times have you looked at your phone today? Checked a text or sent one? Updated your status on Facebook? Read the latest listogram on Buzzfeed? At the bus stop, waiting in line at Starbucks, even while walking to work or out with friends. How many missed connections, opportunities and relationships does this create? This was the impetus behind playwright Stephanie Henderson’s new play, Listen to Me. "I spent many years as a single woman trying to navigate the dating scene in Vancouver. I think dating has been made even more difficult since the age of dinner dates and drive in movies morphed into sexting and booty-calls. I have tinder swiped, I have blind dated, I have Events & Adventured and e-harmonied. I mean, theoretically, bigger pond equals more fish, right? Unfortunately, it just meant a lot of frog kissing and photos of erect penises and none of them led me to my prince. I wanted to address how unnatural and inauthentic it is to build relationships in this way and take us back to sharing air space instead of screen time” says Henderson. Listen to Me is an opportunity to stop hiding behind the digital personas and allow for possibility.

Parental  Discretion is Advised @ AFI's REDACTED

December 7th, 2013 @ Tian Jin Temple
Produced By: Art for Impact
Created By: Resounding Scream Theatre

Art for Impact celebrates arts capacity for social change. Their organization focuses on building communities, making connections, raising awareness through dialogue, motivating positive action and change, and encouraging personal growth. This time around, they are doing so by supporting the organization Evidence for Democracy. AFI has challenged their artists to create pieces centred around a theme of censorship.

In their piece Parental Discretion is Advised, Resounding Scream Theatre explores the ways in which we exercise personal forms of censorship - ways that may be positive or negative. They invite you to uncover the truth beneath the masks that we wear to protect ourselves or others.

Initiation Trilogy

October 15th-28th: @ Granville Island
Produced By: Electric Company Theatre

In the tradition of such celebrated Canadian installation artists as Janet Cardiff and George Mueller, the viewer is given an intensely active role in the creation of the experience. Electric Company is inspired to combine this aesthetic quality with theatre’s capacity to tell a strong story within a communal or group experience wherein we break down the isolating components in our culture and encourage contact, collaboration and community.

Art For Impact: Eye to I

Picture
June 8th-9th, 2012: @ Moberly Arts and Culture Centre, Vancouver
Produced By: Art for Impact

An inspiring evening of dance, theatre, and music works exploring the theme of "eye to i"- acknowledging that placing yourself in another's circumstance cultivates a deeper understanding and appreciation of not only others, but of yourself.

All proceeds from the event are going to LEAP (Learning for the Empowerment and Advancement of Palestinians), an organization dedicated to (1) providing those from other countries opportunities to personally witness the plight of Palestinians, and (2) empowering Palestinian refugee youth through education.

Resounding Scream's creative contribution,  I Am..., explores the experience of tracking "Eye" to "I"; how you see yourself and others in the physically and how that is reflected back influencing how we put ourselves out into the world. It literally fleshes out the experiences of Catherine Ballachey by tracking them like a map on the body: scars, marks and memories.

Trojan Women . . .

Picture
August 5th-9th, 2009: @ Carousel Theatre, Vancouver
Produced By: Resounding Scream Theatre

The historic Trojan War is remembered for many things: the Trojan Horse, the deaths of Hector and Achilles…but what about the women? Euripides sought to uncover this mystery in his mythological classic, Trojan Women. Many of the issues that Euripides raised in this tragedy – abandonment, enigma, hierarchy and hopelessness – are reflected in the world that we live in today. Through Resounding Scream Theatre’s contemporary adaptation, trojan women… enters a world already shattered, already wounded, already dead. Through the merging of modern and traditional theme’s and language, Resounding Scream Theatre hopes to make the men and women of this Greek tragedy, men and women who once seemed so far removed from our reality, become relatable by sourcing events from the world around us. Come join us for a walk through the past to a war that never ended…
